Plant Pot Sizing Tips

How do pot sizes work? Pot sizes are measured at their widest point and listed in centimetres (cm). There are two key measurements to know:

External diameter is the widest point of the decorative pot. This is the size you'll see advertised. For example, a pot listed as 21cm has an external diameter of 21cm.

The opening (internal diameter) is the width of the top opening and determines which size nursery pot fits inside. This is typically smaller than the external diameter. For example, a pot with a 21cm external diameter may have an 18cm opening.

When choosing a pot, match your nursery pot size to the opening measurement, not the external diameter.

 

Finding pot measurements: Each product description lists both the external diameter and opening size. You can also hover over any pot variety to instantly view its opening size.

A nursery pot is the plastic container your plant comes in. To find the right decorative pot, measure the diameter across the top of your nursery pot, then match it to a decorative pot with the same opening size.

For example, an 18cm opening fits a nursery pot up to 18cm wide.
