PERFECT ADDITIONS:
Discover the Magic of the Biophytum sensitivum. If you are a fan of unusual houseplants that offer more than just aesthetic appeal, the Biophytum sensitivum deserves a spot in your collection. Often referred to as the "Little Tree Plant" or "Life Plant," this captivating species originates from the tropical regions of South Asia and Africa. Indoor gardeners love it for its unique, palm-like appearance.
What sets the Biophytum sensitivum apart from your typical ferns or succulents is its sensitivity. Much like the famous Mimosa pudica, its pinnate leaves will slowly fold inward when touched or when the sun sets. This "sleep movement," known scientifically as nyctinasty, makes it a fascinating focal point for any windowsill or terrarium.
Beyond its movements, the plant is visually striking. It grows from a single, woody stem topped with a crown of delicate green leaflets, mimicking a miniature tropical palm tree. In the right conditions, it even produces charming small yellow or pink flowers that add a splash of colour to its lush greenery.
Its compact size makes it perfect for small flats or decorative glass displays. Bring home the Little Tree Plant and enjoy its captivating beauty and responsive nature!
Nursery pot: 9cm terracotta pot included
Care Tips for Success
To keep your Biophytum sensitivum thriving in a British home, you should focus on replicating its native humid environment:
Light: It prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the delicate foliage.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. It does not tolerate complete drying out.
Humidity: This plant loves high humidity. It is an ideal candidate for a glass terrarium or a humid bathroom. If kept in a living room, regular misting or a pebble tray is highly recommended.
Temperature: It thrives in warmth. Ensure it stays away from cold draughts during the British winter months.
Photos are for representation purposes only. You will receive the same high-quality plants and pots that you select.
