Venus Slipper Orchid - Paphiopedilum Pinocchio | Rare
Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout
The Venus Slipper Orchid, Paphiopedilum gratrixianum, affectionately named Pinocchio, is one of the most captivating and botanically fascinating rare orchids available to collectors and plant enthusiasts in the UK. With its large, dramatic blooms featuring a distinctive pouch-shaped slipper lip, rich burgundy and chestnut petal markings, and a broad creamy dorsal sepal striped with deep colour, this is an orchid that looks like nothing else on a windowsill or display shelf.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT
Paphiopedilum orchids, commonly known as lady's slipper orchids or Venus slipper orchids, have been prized by orchid collectors for well over a century, and it is not difficult to understand why. The Paphiopedilum gratrixianum is a true species orchid, native to the limestone-rich hillsides and rocky crevices of southern China and northern Vietnam, where it grows nestled in leaf litter at moderate elevations. There is something genuinely thrilling about owning a plant with that kind of wild provenance, a piece of Southeast Asian flora, brought carefully to life in your own home.
Unlike many orchids, the Venus Slipper Orchid is beautifully suited to the cooler, shadier conditions often found in a typical UK home. It does not demand the intense brightness of a south-facing window, making it an excellent choice for rooms where other orchids might struggle. You can choose from two beautiful colours of the Pinocchio Paphiopedilum: a bright, cheerful yellow or a rich, romantic pink. These options will fit well with any home decor and personal style. Each plant usually produces one flower per spike, but that single bloom is so striking, so intricate and perfectly formed, that it more than holds its own as a focal point. Typically blooming in autumn through to early winter, this orchid adds colour and botanical drama precisely when many houseplants are at their quietest.

PERFECT FOR
The Venus Slipper Orchid is an exceptional gift for orchid lovers and plant collectors, and particularly for anyone who appreciates the rarer, more unusual side of the plant world. Whether you are shopping for a birthday, a special occasion, or simply treating yourself to something genuinely out of the ordinary, a blooming Paphiopedilum gratrixianum is the kind of gift that makes a lasting impression. Its compact size and year-round attractive foliage also make it a refined choice for interior design enthusiasts looking for a rareflowering houseplant that brings quiet, considered elegance to any room, a living room, a home office, a bedroom, or a well-lit bathroom shelf.
STYLING TIP
The architectural quality of the Paphiopedilum gratrixianum bloom, with its sculptural slipper shape and beautifully veined petals, calls for an equally considered setting. Display your Venus slipper orchid in a clean, understated plant pot, letting the flower's natural colouring take centre stage. Position it on a windowsill with bright but indirect light; an east- or north-facing window is ideal at eye level, where the extraordinary detail of the bloom can be fully appreciated. Keep it away from radiators and cold draughts, and mist the air around it occasionally to replicate the humid mountain environments it calls home.
Decorative pot not included; plant supplied in a nursery pot.
