Asparagus ferns are a charming addition to any home's indoor plant collection. They feature delicate, airy foliage resembling the asparagus leaves and gracefully arches like a fern, where they derive their name.

Asparagus ferns are best displayed in a hanging planter or tumbling from a shelf or plant stand. They also pair beautifully with other plants, particularly those with contrasting leaf shapes.

How to Care Asparagus Fern:

Light: Asparagus ferns prefer bright but indirect light and should be kept out of direct sunlight.

Humidity & Temperature: Asparagus ferns require a minimum temperature of 13°C to grow well and should be kept away from draughts and radiators. Asparagus setaceus, in particular, flourishes in humid conditions, making a bright bathroom an ideal location for this plant. It also grows exceptionally well in a terrarium, which can provide the necessary humidity levels for the plant to thrive.

Water: During the spring and summer months, keeping the compost of your asparagus ferns moist but not soggy is recommended, allowing any excess water to drain away. As autumn approaches, you should begin reducing your watering frequency, and in winter, you should water your plant more sparingly.

It is normal for a few yellow fronds to be present at the base of an asparagus fern, as these are old leaves and can be trimmed off. However, if the yellowing is more widespread, it could be due to several reasons, and some investigation may be necessary. Yellowing of the asparagus fern's foliage can be caused by several factors, such as high temperatures, excessive exposure to light, or over- or under-watering.

Toxic to pets and children: All parts of the asparagus fern plant are mildly toxic to humans and pets if ingested.

Air purifying: Yes
